Kaohsiung

Probably my favourite city.

Riverside & Pier

Nice riverside area that's cool at night: Map

They've renovated their old pier with lots of shops during the day: Map

Cafe & Bakery

You NEED to go to this cafe/bakery: Map

Great coffee, excellent strawberry cake, and the Basque cheesecake rivals the ones in San Sebastián.

Noodle Soup

South Taiwan is famous for noodle soup. This one has a queue but it's worth it: Map

If you like fatty pork, get the pork trotters soup.

Cijin Island

Take a boat from the noodle shop to Cijin Island (5 mins). The old street isn't particularly special, but there's a nice bikeway along the beach near the new port. You can see it from afar — the scale is mind-blowing; the cranes look like modern art.

Cool cafe on the island with their own coffee roastery: Map

Kong Rou & Lu Rou

One of the most famous places for kong rou (pork belly on rice) and lu rou (fatty pork pieces on rice): Map

There's usually a queue, but it's worth it.

Fatty pork on a steamed bun (waited ~30 mins): Map

Beef Soup

Famous for beef soup where the beef is slaughtered the same day. We waited until 9pm for the van to arrive with fresh meat. You get a soup, add vegetables, and dip the meat slices for a couple of seconds. Extremely fresh: Map
